Dress Code

Student Dress and Grooming Standards

The Summit Academy Board of Trustees has established general guidelines and standards for student dress and grooming. Students’ general appearance should be neat, clean, and attractive. Students should wear clothing that is appropriately sized and correctly worn. The Summit Academy HS guidelines are as follows:



  • Solid Polo shirts or button down Oxford shirts or blouses only (short or long sleeves)
  • Polo Shirts must be white, navy, light blue, gold, or yellow.  They can be solid or solid with the SAHS logo.
  • Button down Oxford shirts must have a collar and sleeves. Oxford shirts must be solid white, navy, light blue, gold, or yellow.  They must be solid or have the SAHS logo.
  • Only white undershirts may be worn underneath the official school shirt.
  • Other shirts or vests may NOT be layered on top of the official school shirt.


Pants & Skirts-

  • Solid tan or navy blue 2 side pocket pants, shorts, or skirts (for girls) only.
  • There is also a blue/gold plaid skirt/shorts option.
  • Cargo pants are not permitted.
  • Navy Blue or Khaki jeans are not permitted.
  • All shorts, skirts, and skorts must not be more than 4 inches above the knee.
  • Pants, shorts, skirts must be hemmed at the bottom with no frayed edges or holes.
  • Pants, shorts, and skirts should be pleated or non-pleated cotton twill, or corduroy and must be sized appropriately, not baggy, not too tight or sloppy looking.



  • Socks may be worn and should be of conservative color and design and not contain any wording.
  • Black, navy, or white tights may be worn with skirts or shorts.
  • Shoes must be worn.  Shoes with wheels, lights or electronics are not permitted.  Slippers are not permitted.
  • Ties and navy blazes are approved. Ties may be worn with oxford shirts only and should be of conservative color and design. (wording is not appropriate on a tie)
  • Hats, visors, beanies, bandannas, gloves, or sunglasses may not be worn in class.
  • Tattoos, body piercings, or excessive jewelry are not permitted.  No facial jewelry or hardware may be worn to school which includes tongue piercing.
  • Students may wear one pair of earrings in their earlobes.



  • A modest amount of makeup and accessories are acceptable for girls to wear.
  • Hair should be neat, clean, conservatively styled.  It should be kept out of the student’s eyes to facilitate learning.  Extreme, bizarre, or distracting hair-styles or colors are not allowed.
  • Hair must be neatly combed and clean. Extreme, bizarre, distracting, and unnatural hair colors or hair additions (feathers, colored braids, etc.) are not permitted.



  • Sweaters, hoodies, and jackets worn in class must be navy, white, light blue, yellow or school approved.  You may NOT wear the hood on your head in class.
  • Clothing may not be worn inside out.
  • Hoodies must be sized appropriately.
  • Outerwear must be plain and cannot contain logos unless it is a SAHS logo and has been approved.

Any violation of Student Dress Code is subject to administrative intervention. Violators will be asked to meet dress code standards and/or be sent home. Repeat and subsequent dress code violators will be subject to disciplinary action up to and including suspension. Any absence related to dress code violations will be treated as an unexcused absence.
